The mic was low... but the lesson was loud

Saturday night I went to a Stephen Wilson Jr. show downtown.

The place was packed shoulder to shoulder. People passing joints around like they were trying to fog the entire room.

Everyone locked into the moment, eyes half-closed, swaying like they’d all rehearsed it.

But the mic was way too low compared to the band.

Not slightly low.
Not “maybe it’s just me” low.
I mean so low I couldn’t make out a single lyric he was singing. No one could.

And here’s what surprised me:
Nobody else seemed to care.

The crowd was screaming every word they couldn’t hear. Everyone just leaning into the vibe.

The music was muffled, the lyrics were inaudible, but the confidence of the people around them made it feel right. That energy held the entire room up.

On the way home, I was thinking about how strange that was… and then the next morning I started messing around with some leveraged crypto trades.

Suddenly the whole thing made sense.

Trading is the exact same way.

You look at the charts and you can practically see where the herd has placed their stops. Same levels.
Same patterns.
Same blind spots.

Everyone trading off the same “feel” instead of anything resembling a real signal.

It felt like watching the concert all over again — a giant crowd moving in unison even though the important part, the actual information, was muffled.

That’s when it clicked for me:

Most people are perfectly comfortable making decisions with unclear information… as long as everyone around them seems confident.

The crowd replaces the signal. The noise feels safe.

And the result is predictable: they get liquidated in markets and sing out-of-sync at concerts.

That’s just not how I operate.
If the mic is low, I notice.
If the signal is unclear, I want it turned up.
